Light in the Midst of Devastation

Dear Brothers & Sisters In Christ,

What’s unfolding in Gaza continues to break our hearts. The cries of children, the exhaustion of mothers, and the hunger of displaced families have become daily realities. Even the simplest necessities: bread, water, and medicine, are becoming harder to find. But in the thick of this unimaginable suffering, your prayers and support are allowing God’s light to break through.

Through the Christian Mission to Gaza and Gaza Baptist Church, we are continuing to serve those sheltering inside the churches and beyond. On Thursday, May 22, we distributed 880 hot meals in Gaza. The cost of one simple meal has now reached $11, yet it means everything to someone who has not eaten in days.

But food is only part of the story.

There are more than 100,000 civilians from Gaza who have fled to Egypt since the war started. Many for medical treatments or injuries where the treatment is not available in Gaza. As we partner with local churches in Egypt and others, we are able to help many people. These are some of their stories of hope.

Last week, two elderly women came to our leaders in tears. They had been renting just a two-meter space (6.5 feet) to sleep in, side-by-side with many others in a stranger’s home. The only thing they asked for was dignity.

We helped a cancer patient afford a $340 injection he needs every month to survive. Another woman, living with a heart condition and a medical device implanted in her body, was able to get the $90 in monthly medication she needs. These small miracles are only possible because of your generosity.

In Egypt, we supported 400 refugee families. Through our local partners, the local church and beyond, we were able to reach between 1,600 to 2,000 individuals. Many of these families have lost everything. One father lost his wife, daughter, and brother in a single bombing. He now cares not only for his remaining children still in Gaza but also for his brother’s daughters and his elderly mother. He told us that just having someone sit with him, listen, and care made him feel human again.

A Palestinian refugee recalled a bus ride with his children in Egypt. When a plane flew overhead, his young son began to tremble in fear, reliving the terror of war. These stories of trauma don’t end at the border. They travel with the people, deep in their memories and bones.

Another man, Shaher, came to share his story. He spoke for over half an hour to one of our team members, pouring out the pain he’s carried for months. When he finished, he said, “Thank you—thank you on behalf of the Palestinian people in Egypt.” Sometimes the deepest healing begins when someone simply listens.

A Story of Hope, Love, and Forgiveness

In Egypt, a Palestinian Muslim woman came to a local church seeking help. She was dropped off by an Egyptian taxi driver. As they arrived and he realized that this woman, a Muslim, was receiving aid from a Christian church, he was visibly shocked.

He turned to her and said, almost in disbelief, “We burned their churches… and here they are helping us?”

He couldn’t comprehend how those who had suffered at the hands of others could still choose to love, to give, and to forgive.

But this is exactly what the love of Christ does—it breaks walls, heals wounds, and offers hope even where division once ruled.

This kind of love makes people stop and ask:

“What drives these people to care, to give, and to forgive like this?”

The answer is simple, yet profound:

It is Christ.

His love. His grace. His forgiveness.

We are not only providing aid, we are building relationships, offering presence, and reflecting the love of Christ in word and deed. In the face of violence and destruction, this ministry continues because of your prayers and support.

Please continue to stand with us.

May God raise up peacemakers on both sides. May His justice and mercy flow. And may we never grow weary of doing good.

Blessings,

Pastor Hanna Massad
